This gorgeous coffee table book far exceeded my expectations, both in quality and content. Just visited Sunnylands two weeks ago and was able to see their visitor center and stunning desert gardens but couldn't tour the main hose, since tickets are available only online and are sold out right away. Saw this book at their gift shop and decided to order it thru Amazon upon returning home. What a great homage to this beautiful estate and mid-century modern architectural masterpiece this book is !Not only the physical aspects of Sunnylands are highlighted, but the history of the place, the Annenbergs and their social, philanthropic, and political involvements, their very famous friends, dignitaries, and celebrities that visited their home, etc. The book has hundreds of amazing photographs and a detailed, room-by-room description of furnishings, accessories, space layout, art, etc. It almost made up for not being able to visit the place in person, which I plan to do next time I visit the Palm Springs area next year. A must have for any mid-century modern enthusiast !
Great depiction of what you see on the grounds and in the home tour. Iconic historical landmark. The book on site was $60 so to get it from Amazon for $40 was a huge bonus. The only difference was the $60 version was a signed copy by the author. Surprised that the book cover is solid and somewhat quilted. Great quality!
A readers trip through Sunnylands: America's Midcentury Masterpiece is almost better than touring Sunnylands in person. An important bookfor anyone interested in all things midcentury modern or America's most important and beautiful homes.
One of my favorite books of the year. Well written and the photography of the highest quality .A great document of a past generation.
Simply amazing, and a great celebration of the work of Billy Haines and all things Chic! As only the Annenbergs could create!
